Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using SQL Practice (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

SQL Practice provides free, browser-based learning and practice for programming languages: tutorials and lessons, exercises with automatic checking, interview questions, a SQL playground with sample data and a formatter, and code playgrounds. SQL, Python, JavaScript and TypeScript run entirely on the client side. The Service is intended for educational and practice purposes — nothing you type is sent to or stored on our servers.

3. Practice progress and certificates

The Service has no user accounts. Your exercise progress is recorded only in your own browser's local storage. We do not hold a copy, cannot restore it if it is lost, and it will not transfer to another browser or device. Clearing your browsing data will permanently erase it.

Completing a learning path allows you to generate a Certificate of Completion. This certificate records only that the exercises on this website were completed in your browser. It is not an accredited qualification, not a professional certification, and is not recognised or endorsed by any university, government body, employer or certifying authority. Because completion is recorded locally and is not independently verified, the certificate carries no verification value and should not be presented as a formal credential. The name printed on a certificate is one you supply yourself and is not checked.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service in any way that could disable, overburden, or impair it, or interfere with any other party's use of it
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its underlying systems
• Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service in a manner that sends excessive requests
• Use the Service to develop or test malicious code intended to attack third-party systems

5. Sample data

All company names, people, products, and figures shown in the sample database (Employees, Departments, Customers, Products, Orders) are entirely fictional and generated for demonstration purposes. Any resemblance to real entities is coincidental.

6. Intellectual property

The design, code, and written content of SQL Practice are provided for your personal, non-commercial use while using the Service. The Service also uses open-source third-party software (including the SQLite database engine, sql.js and Tailwind CSS), each governed by its own licence or, in SQLite's case, dedicated to the public domain; see the Open Source Licenses page.

7. No warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Query results are produced by a third-party, in-browser SQL engine and should not be relied upon for production, financial, or legal decisions.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service.

9. Advertising

The Service currently displays no advertisements. It may display third-party advertisements in future to support the cost of hosting and development. See our Privacy Policy for details of what would change if that happens.

10. Changes to these terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
